The Department of Gender and Women’s Studies (GWS) at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a Chancellor’s postdoctoral research associate in transgender studies for the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a one-year appointment with a start date of August 16, 2025, eligible for renewal for a second year. Applicants must demonstrate promise for a tenure-track appointment at a research college or university. The postdoctoral research associate will have a close working relationship with faculty in GWS and related departments, and assistance in furthering the fellow’s development as a productive scholar. The postdoctoral research associate will give a public presentation on their research project and each year will teach one of the department’s regularly offered undergraduate courses. We welcome scholars working in trans studies from a range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches and methodologies. Research areas could include, but are not limited to: cultural production and artistic-based scholarship; settler colonialisms and decolonial thought; or environmental studies. The postdoctoral research associate will be housed in the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies and will be provided opportunities to build a supportive on-campus community with the postdoctoral research associates from American Indian and Indigenous Studies, African American Studies, Asian American Studies, and Latina/Latino Studies.
