Dear GWS Friends, Colleagues, and Students:
We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Professor Berenice A. Carroll earlier this summer. As many of you know, she played a crucial role in the early history of our department, so she will always hold a special place in our memories. In addition to her influential feminist scholarship, her inspired teaching, and her unshakeable commitment to activism for justice and peace, she will be remembered for guiding the creation of an official Women’s Studies Program and the approval of a Women’s Studies Minor at the University of Illinois. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her and by all who benefited from her generosity and the impact of her work in many different parts of the world. A full obituary may be found here: http://www.news-gazette.com/obituaries/2018-06-17/berenice-carroll.html
Several of Berenice’s friends and colleagues are planning a celebration of her life on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 2-5pm at Purdue University (118 Purdue Memorial Union).
